Let’s face it: Some yoga poses taste a little bit sweeter than others. These soothing and well-supported poses offer us the opportunity to linger quietly for a few moments and savour the simple sweetness of life.

In an ideal world every asana would feel restorative. But those that fall into the special category of restorative poses have a particular ability to leave us nourished and well rested. These postures are usually deeply supported by blankets, blocks, or other props and are held for several minutes at a time.

Restorative poses help relieve the effects of stress.  Restorative class is designed to move the spine in all directions – our wellbeing is enhanced by a healthy spine. Some of the poses are backbends, while others are forward bends.  Additional posses gently twist the column both left and right.

Our practice will also include inverted postures, that reverse the effects of gravity.  As we stand or sit most of the day, blood and lymph fluid accumulate in the lower extremities.  By changing the relationship of the legs to gravity, fluids are returned to the upper body and heart function is enhanced.  Inverted postures dramatically alter hormone levels, thus reducing brain arousal, blood pressure and fluid retention.

Restorative yoga alternately stimulates and soothes the organs and balances our whole being.

Be kind to yourself and join us for a gentle and deep, candlelit restorative yoga practice.  Investment £15.  Please e-mail or call the studio to book.
